Personal trainer found dead in woods told pal she was ‘scared for her life’

A friend of a 39-year-old personal trainer who was found dead in a forest following after being missing for a week has said that her pal was ‘scared for her life’ in the build-up to her disappearance

A close friend of personal trainer whose body was found in a forest says her pal was “scared for her life” in the days leading up to her disappearance.

Fitness instructor Elena Katherine Moore, 39, went missing earlier this month (June 11) a week before her body was tragically discovered in a wood on Wednesday (June 17). She was reported missing by her husband the day after she was last seen leaving a fitness centre in South Carolina, US.

And now, Moore’s friend Sondra Campbell has claimed that something felt “very different” in the lead up to her tragic disappearance and death.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Campbell said of her friend: “She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me.”

When asked why she was so frightened, Campbell describes Moore as responding, “I can’t talk to you right now. There’s too many people around. But we’ve got to talk one-on-one.”

Campbell explained that she felt the disappearance of her friend was completely out of character and “not her”.

She said: ““Elena was such a good person and I think we’re just all trying to wrap our heads around this, but my friend would not be alone walking at night time.

“She just wouldn’t be. It’s not her.”

“Elena is one of my best friends. I’ve known her over probably 10 years now. We’re really close, like, tell each other everything. She’s been that person for me for a long time.”

Another friend of Elena’s, Lauren Beasley, says that her pal had stopped using social media in the lead-up to their disappearance.

She said: “She is very active on social media so her going radio silent for the last month is out of character”.

According to the Lexington Police Department, Elena was last seen on Thursday, June 11, after signing in at Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Investigators said surveillance footage later captured her walking away from the gym toward the wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

She was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants.

The investigation into her disappearance and death remains on going.
