Love Island’s Sean Fitzgerald and Lola Deal have been the most secure couple in the villa, but the Heart Rate Challenge puts their exclusive status to the test
Teacher Sean Fitzgerald and former detective Lola Deal have been Love Island’s most solid pairing since the very beginning.
The duo struck up a bond on their first day in the villa and have stayed together ever since. They even professed their love for one another within mere days of their romance blossoming.
Their endearing relationship has earned them beloved status amongst viewers and has even set a benchmark for fellow villa residents. Eliminated Islander Sam Workman confessed he envied the connection they had forged on the programme.
He told ITV following his departure: “I think Lola and Fitzy [Sean] will stay together and I really hope they make it to the end. I think they deserve to win – they’re strong and everyone looks up to them and wants what they have.
“I certainly looked up to them and thought ‘I wish I had that connection with someone’. I definitely think they’ll be a strong couple on the outside.”
While many would wager on the pair lasting the course on the programme and beyond the villa doors, it appears fractures might be set to emerge between the twosome, reports OK!
Tonight (June 23) witnesses the comeback of the eagerly-awaited Heart Rate Challenge, during which the lads and ladies take turns donning provocative costumes and delivering dance performances before the group, who are fitted with heart rate monitors. Their objective is to elevate the pulse rates of their fellow Islanders of the opposite gender as dramatically as possible.
As Sean observes the girls showing off their moves, he tells the lads: “I think I went exclusive too early boys.”
Viewers may recall that the duo chose to shut down their other possibilities in the programme, but since then Sean has mentioned wanting a challenge.
Nevertheless, Lola’s entrance in a white lace ensemble complete with veil might prompt him to retract his words. Audiences will need to watch tonight to discover whether Lola can quicken his heartbeat the most – or if another contestant has seized his interest.

Debating the couple on Reddit, one viewer expressed scepticism about Sean’s intentions, suggesting: “The way he said he needs a test DESPITE being closed off and saying I love you..! ? To me that screams Sean has prepared a whole storyline for him and Lola in his head, he’s scamming I fear.”
Coming to their aid, one supporter remarked: “Some people are too hurt from their own personal experience to believe people can have great connections like Sean and Lola do.”
A third contributed: “People didn’t buy Molly and Tommy, or Will and Uma, and they had a lot less reason to do so.”
A fourth reality enthusiast wrote: “These are two people with serious careers; honestly not surprising they’ve gravitated towards each other and have their heads screwed on.”
Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
