Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has said she would let her 20-year-old daughter Darcey sign up for Love Island – and says she’d love to do it herself
Kate Garraway has revealed she would be thrilled to appear on ITV’s dating programme Love Island, and would happily allow her 20-year-old daughter to take part as well.
The Good Morning Britain presenter is mother to daughter Darcey and 16-year-old son William with her late husband Derek Draper, who passed away in 2024.
Love Island is currently broadcasting its 13th series on ITV2. During the programme, participants reside in a villa in Majorca and spend their days in swimwear while getting acquainted with one another.
The show also features various tasks, including the Heart Rate challenge, where participants perform lap dances for each other in a bid to achieve the highest heart rate reading.
Rather than being deterred by the programme’s provocative elements, Kate has expressed she would permit her daughter to participate. She told Digital Spy: “I would let Darcey do Love Island, yeah, but she says she will never do it!”
However, the wardrobe requirements proved to be an obstacle in Kate’s own aspirations for the programme. She continued: “I’d love to do Love Island, but I’m not really bikini ready!” There’s another factor preventing her participation – Kate has already discovered romance, reports the Mirror.
The former Celebrity Traitors contestant has begun a relationship with economist Liam Halligan. In May, she was spotted cheering him on at a charity cycling event.
Shortly afterwards, she told the Mirror at Chelsea Flower Show that the relationship “is lovely”. She confessed that they’ve hardly spent much time together, and she was eager to remain tight-lipped for fear of “jinxing” anything.
She said: “We basically haven’t really had time for a proper date! I don’t want to jinx it! I don’t want to say anything because I will jinx it! I will jinx it. We all love an Irishman don’t we?”.
When questioned about whether she and Liam had plans to arrange some “proper dates,” she revealed that Liam had been posing the same question to her.
“He says to me, ‘Now we’re in the papers, is there are a chance we can actually have some dates?’ But my mum and dad have not been very well so I’ve been really consumed by that.
“It’s been tricky and I’ve just been doing that this weekend. My dad was supposed to be with me actually [at Chelsea] but he’s not well enough. I’m very lucky to have both of them and I know it’s normal [part of ageing].”
She agreed that her budding romance was a welcome distraction: “Yes. It’s lovely. And it’s lovely to have you all caring!” Liam was reportedly on good terms with Kate’s husband Derek. The political lobbyist and spin doctor married Kate in 2005 but tragically passed away in 2024 from complications related to long Covid.
