A father was left shocked after his home was converted into a cannabis farm while he was in hospital abroad
A disabled man has been left on the verge of tears after his house was transformed into a cannabis factory by druggie tenants.
Wheelchair-bound Yehia Hassan, 78, had been receiving hospital treatment in Egypt while renters gutted his property converting it into a cannabis farm. The man’s family were cautious about showing him the state of his former home due to the effect it may have on his health, as he also suffers from diabetes.
Describing his home in Bedfordshire before it was converted into a cannabis greenhouse, the 78-year-old said: “It was perfect in here.” He added: “I just don’t know how people can do this to someone else’s property. It’s the only place I have.”
Police raided Hassan’s property uncovering hundreds of cannabis plants, but despite their efforts authorities have not been able to locate the occupants. Hassan has said the ordeal has led him to doubt who he can trust as he had put everything into the house during his life. He said: “I really trusted the guy.”
“He said he was going to look after the place. But honestly, I don’t know who I can trust any more. All my life I have worked for this house. It’s going to cost tens of thousands of pounds to put everything right.”
Bedfordshire Police has said there is an increasing issue of “professional enablers subletting to criminal networks for the cultivation of cannabis”.
Det Insp Simon Mullan stated: “We are now seeing estate agents involved in many of the factories we enforce against.”
He added: “Estate agents are unregulated, which is one of the big problems, and criminals are exploiting this industry for their own ends.”
Hasan has stated the incident has left him living with his ex-wife and relying on the support of Razan, his 19-year-old daughter.
Razan has revealed looking after her father has caused her to hold off on going to uni for the time being.
The 19-year-old said: “I was due to go to university, but have put that on hold to sort this out.
“There is still no power because the renters rewired everything and were stealing electricity from the entire street.” The former druggie occupants of Razan’s childhood home completely changed the interior of the house during the drugs operation.
Over the span of a few weeks the drug farmers drilled large holes in the walls to install extractor fans. Heavy lights were hung from the ceiling and fence panels were removed to allow the house to be accessed from a third property.
