Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd takes action following Charity’s confession, and a thrilling flashforward ensues

Emmerdale icon Charity Dingle has finally come clean to her husband Mack Boyd about baby Leyla’s parentage and her ordeal with Dr. Todd, and fans may be wondering what happens next.

In recent weeks on the ITV soap, Charity (Emma Atkins) has been struggling after being blackmailed and sexually assaulted by Dr. Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), who knows the truth about Leyla being the biological daughter of Charity and Ross Barton (Mike Parr).

After a fateful encounter with the kind stranger Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), the Woolpack landlady decided to come clean to Mack (Lawrence Robb), as well as to Sarah (Katie Hill) and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), who believe that Leyla is theirs.

On Thursday (June 25), Charity started clearing her conscience by opening up to Mack, who listened in anger as his wife explained she had cheated with his friend Ross.

She then explained to Mack that her sleeping with Ross wasn’t just about them, but involved Sarah and Jacob too, and he immediately clocked what this meant for baby Leyla.

Charity broke down, telling Mack about being raped by Todd and how the police said they couldn’t progress with the case due to a lack of evidence.

Mack was devastated, but encouraged his wife to hold off telling Sarah and Jacob for now, but to go talk to the police so Todd could be brought to justice.

“I can be angry with you and still be there for you when you need me most,” Mack said.

What does Charity do next?

Next week, Charity goes back to the police and tells them that, in addition to sexually assaulting her, the evil doctor also blackmailed her.

DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) says she will take a statement from Charity about the blackmail allegations, but advises her that the sexual assault will be treated as a separate incident.

After her meeting with DS Reid, Charity once again starts to feel doubtful. She worries that stepping up and reporting the full extent of Todd’s wrongdoing may be all for nothing.

As she continues to reflect, Charity fears that in disclosing everything, she’s failed to protect Sarah and that Todd won’t ultimately face justice over the sexual assault in particular.

Meanwhile, Mack is worried that Charity is trying to be too brave about her ordeal. His concern deepens when Charity insists on putting others first to attend baby Leyla’s christening.

At the christening after-party, Mack is overwhelmed by the secrecy, and when his self-destructive mode kicks in, he tries to pick a fight with Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill), who does not respond.

Mack is forced to explain his actions and, surprisingly, blurts out that Charity had cheated on him. Kev then encourages Mack to get his revenge “in a clever way” on whoever has hurt his family.

This spurs Mack on to visit Todd in a Sheffield hospital, but she denies the claims. She asserts that her encounter with Charity was intimate but not assault, and attempts to convince Mack with persistent lies and a seemingly apologetic façade.

Mack shuts down Todd, vowing to see her imprisoned for the rape of his wife, but Todd remains smug as security arrives.

Before Mack leaves Todd’s office, he makes a final threat, promising to kill Todd if she ever touches Charity again. The next day, the police swarm the village and demand to speak to Mack.

In a huge twist, a flash-forward transports viewers to a major crime scene. A forensic flash illuminates the area, and for a split second, the victim’s identity is revealed. Is there another murder mystery on the way?
