WWE legend surprises young patients at London hospital with secret appearance

Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, stunned several children at London’s legendary Great Ormond Street Hospital to unveil a new play space connected to him

A WWE and Hollywood legend has surprised dozens of children in hospital in London. He left kids and nurses alike stunned when he showed up to unveil a new play space for kids.

Dwayne Johnson has been known as a WWE star for years under his iconic alias “The Rock”. However, he has since tilted towards acting, becoming a well-respected actor, starring in blockbuster films like Jumanji.

But on Monday (June 29), he left poorly kids receiving treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital shocked when he arrived to open a new indoor space for kids to play in. The space is inspired by smash Disney hits Lilo & Stitch and Moana, which have both featured him.

The Rock was joined by Catherine Laga’aia, who together play the lead roles in the live action version of Moana, set to be released on July 10. The pair officially cut the ribbon and officially opened the multi-sensory environment to help children relax and play in such a health-oriented building.

The space has been built with accessibility in mind, so that children who are both able and unable to run around can have as much fun as possible. It also has been shaped together with former patients and parents who were treated at the hospital.

Kids will get the chance to get stuck in and play with water, shaping it like Moana herself in the hit movie franchise. There are also areas specifically for children with visual impairments, meaning they can also have some fun.

At the opening, Dwayne and Catherine met 10-year-old Bella, who developed a strong connection to Moana while she bravely fought back against a tumour. Aged just 4, she spent some time in Great Ormond Street Hospital, but fell in love with Moana, with mum Sophie says helped Bella be able to learn how to talk again.

Speaking on the opening of the new space, Deborah Armstrong from Disney’s UK and Ireland division said: “Children need a space where they can just be kids, even in the toughest moments, and this new space helps make that possible. At Disney, we’re incredibly proud of our decades-long collaboration with GOSH Charity, and this inclusive, immersive environment is the latest way we’re bringing the magic of Disney to children and families who need it most.

“The exceptional attention to detail reflects the care and dedication of teams across our organisations. And its accessible design ensures we can bring comfort, joy and a sense of escape to even more children, regardless of their physical or sensory needs.”

Louise Park from the GOSH charity said that the playspace will help to give seriously ill children “have the best childhood possible”. She added: “It’s a brilliant example of what can be achieved through the longstanding partnership between GOSH Charity and Disney, and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support.”
