Food authorities have sent a warning to blokes who bought several brands of vitamin pills after some were found to contain an extremely powerful and potentially dangerous erection-causing chemical

Officials have sent a drastic warning to blokes looking to buy several brands of dietary supplement listed as “plant based” after some were found to contain an extremely powerful and potentially dangerous erection-causing chemical.

Products sold online and over the counter in Germany have been advertised as food supplements, but were actually found to contain significant quantities of the chemical Sildenafil, a prescription-only drug used to treat erectile disfunction.

Even more worryingly, investigators are warning that the companies listed as distributors of the products on their packaging may not even exist, prompting concerns about the quality control maintained during their manufacture.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia issued a warning about products named “Vigor King,” “Pro Naturals,” and “Night Longer”, which were reportedly being sold in shops in Germany and on online retail websites such as Amazon, according to German news outlet BILD.

All products found to contain the chemical have now been removed from Amazon, according to reports.

Officials were alerted to the issue after a shop in the German city of Cologne was found to be selling one of the products containing Sildenafil.

Some of the products highlighted list apparently non-existent companies as their manufacturer, including one called AY-TEK Ltd and another called Pro 77.

Due to the fact that the companies cannot be traced, EU officials are unable to trigger an official product recall, but are instead advising those in possession of the supplements to dispose of them immediately.

Sildenafil can dangerously lower blood pressure, especially if mixed with other medications, and may cause chest pain, heart issues, or vision problems.

According to the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, some products were found to contain 5.1mg of Sildenafil per gram, although it is not made clear how much was in one recommended serving of the pills.

A regular dose of Sildenafil taken during erectile dysfunction treatment is usually around 50mg.
