Mal Roper’s attacker was revealed during the latest episode of Coronation Street after Bernie Winter was wrongly accused

Coronation Street has finally confirmed what happened to Mal Roper.

Bernie Winter faced a police interview during Friday’s (February 27) episode of the ITV1 soap opera, which is now available to watch on ITVX.

The fan favourite came under pressure over her history with stalker Mal and why she threatened him shortly before his brutal attack.

Bernie explained to DC Browning that she met Mal a few weeks ago, when he invited her up to his room at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Mal has harassed her ever since, giving her a clear motive for the attack but she firmly denied using violence to solve the problem.

Meanwhile, Bernie’s copper son Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) seemed troubled as he approached his partner Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) to share a secret he’s been keeping.

Confirming that he was to blame rather than mum Bernie, a guilty Kit explained: “I didn’t kick him or hit him or anything like that. I grabbed him, gave him a shove and warned him off.

“He’s had a heart attack – he would have had one anyway. I thought it’d blow over but Bernie doesn’t have an alibi.”

When Sarah encouraged her partner to tell his police colleagues the truth if the incident really was as minor as he claims, he replied: “I’d end up losing my job. We’ve just got to ride it out.”

Later in the episode, Kit was relieved when Bernie got released without charge, leaving him hopeful that the allegations against her would disappear without him needing to set the record straight.

However, when Kit’s co-worker Lisa Swain announced that she’d being taken off desk duties following the Becky Swain investigation, he realised he’d have to tread carefully.

Lisa asked: “Aren’t you the least bit curious to find out who’s attacked the guy who’s been harassing your mum?”

Vowing to take a personal interest in the mystery, she added: “I need to get back to doing what I did best – catching the bad guys…”
